Although I can understand the allure of overpriced papusas and beer, the tee-shirt shops and bars pumping banda and dancehall music over each other makes me want to rip my ears off.
A good place to surf I hear. Search around for accommodations as negotiations are almost mandatory. Don't use booking sites unless you absolutely have to.
If you stay further away from the beach you'll get cheaper accommodations and food. Just not for me as there are better ways to get to know El Salvador and it's warm inhabitants than here. El Tunco has year round waves so you can alway go surfing no mater what time of the year you come.
There are many hotels and restaurants to choose from; so if you are on a budget or you have extra cash to spend, you will find what you are looking for. This little town on the seaside is an excellent safe destination in El Salvador. If you enjoy surfing then the waves here are fantastic. Even if you are not a surfer you can take beginners lessons at a reasonable or cheap fee. This place also beautiful waterfalls that you can hike to and swim in.
